Dangers in the night

In the Darkness
All through the night
Prowlers crept
Strangers checking locks door and windows
Parents sleeping
Children in their bed
Houses ignored with dogs barking
House by house
Door by doot
Window by window
Shame if found walking
After midnight
Predators were watching
Waiting
Hours
Days
Werks
Sometimes months
A drunken wife
A jilted teenager
Car trouble in the middle of the night
Careful careful
Mothers would tell their daughters
There out there
Waiting to pounce, prey and devour
No one if safe
No one immune
Not from the dangers in the night.
